Lauren Brazeal

Founder & US Representative

Lauren Brazeal’s connection to the Waorani Nation began in the early 2000’s when she spent time living with members of the tribe in the villages of Quehuere’ono, Bambeno, and Nenkepare. Her time living in these beautiful places had a profound effect on her philosophies regarding life, family, and generosity. Despite returning to her home country of the US, she has maintained and grown her friendships within the tribe over the years. She is an author of the book Gutter (YesYes Books, 2018) and current PhD student in Literature at UT Dallas.

La conexión de Lauren Brazeal con la Nación Waorani comenzó a principios de la década de 2000 cuando pasó un tiempo viviendo con miembros de la tribu en las aldeas de Quehuere’ono, Bambeno y Nenkepare. El tiempo que pasó viviendo en estos hemosos lugares tuvo un profundo efecto en sus filisofias sobre la vida, la famila, y la generosidad. A pesar de regresar a su país de origen, Estados Unidos, ha mantenido y aumentado sus amistades dentro de la tribu a lo largo de los años. Ella es autora del libro Gutter (YesYes Books, 2018) y actual estudiante de doctorado en Literatura en UT Dallas.

Wilson Bon Nenquimo Quimontari

Co-Founder & Orellana Representative

Wilson Bon Nenquimo Quimontari was born in the Pastaza province in 1988 and currently lives in the Yawepare community, Dayuma Parish, in the Orellana province. He earned a B.S. in Social Science from the Yachana Inti. PCEI Fiscmomisional Educational Unit in 2016. He has participated in many workshops promoting dialogue and discussion between indigenous territories of the Waorani, Kichwa, and mestizo communities of Pindo, Dayuma, Shiripuno, and Yasuni National Park. Wilson lives with his family and mother, Teppa Quimontari, one of the wisest Pikenani (great elders), daughter of Quimontari and older sister of Tage, who, with the rest of her siblings, gave rise to the Tagaeri–one of the groups in voluntary isolation. Wilson’s goal is to support Waorani communities and families, as his parents and grandparents did.

Wilson Bon Nenquimo Quimontari nació en la provincia de Pastaza en 1988 y actualmente vive en la comunidad Yawepare, Parroquia Dayuma, en la provincia de Orellana. Obtuvo una licenciatura en ciencias sociales de Yachana Inti. Unidad Educativa PCEI Fiscmomisional en 2016. Ha participado en numerosos talleres promoviendo el diálogo y la discusión entre territorios indígenas de las comunidades waorani, kichwa y mestizas de Pindo, Dayuma, Shiripuno y el Parque Nacional Yasuní. Wilson vive con su familia y madre, Teppa Quimontari, uno de losmás sabios Pikenani (grandes ancianos), hija de Quimontari y hermana mayor de Tage, quien, con el resto de sus hermanos, dio origen a los Tagaeri – uno de los grupos en aislamiento voluntario. El objetivo de Wilson es apoyar a las comunidades y familias Waorani, como lo hicieron sus padres y abuelos.

Octavio Saúl Ñihua Cerda

Co-Founder & Pastaza Representative

Octavio Saúl Ñihua Cerda was born in the Waorani settlement of Kenaweno, Curaray Parish, Arajuno Canton, Pastaza Province in 1982. He currently lives in the Waorani community of Daipare. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from the Colegio Buenas Nuevas PCEI. In 2008 he was appointed as health leader in the organization NAWE (Waorani Nationality of Ecuador). He has served as health promoter in the Waorani community of Toñampari, and community communicator Wao Apeninka 91.1 FM community radio of the Waorani nationality of Ecuador. He was also involved in the mobilizations regarding the Waorani resistance of Pastaza on block 22. He currently resides with his family; his father Ñihua Quimontari and my mother Herlinda Cerda, his brothers, uncle, and nephew on the shores of the Curaray river, surrounded by the beautiful birdsong that gives strength to his people. He dreams of supporting his Pikenanis (great elders).

Octavio Saúl Ñihua Cerda nació en el asentamiento Waorani de Kenaweno, Parroquia Curaray, Cantón Arajuno, Provincia de Pastaza en 1982. Actualmente vive en la comunidad Waorani de Daipare. Tiene una licenciatura en Ciencias Sociales del Colegio Buenas Nuevas PCEI. En 2008 fue designado como líder de salud en la organización NAWE (Nacionalidad Waorani del Ecuador). Se ha desempeñado como promotor de salud en la comunidad Waorani de Toñampari, y comunicador comunitario Wao Apeninka 91.1 FM Radio comunitaria de la nacionalidad Waorani de Ecuador. También participó en las movilizaciones relacionadas con la resistencia waorani de Pastaza en el bloque 22. Actualmente reside con su familia; su padre Ñihua Quimontari y mi madre Herlinda Cerda, sus hermanos, tío y sobrino a orillas del río Curaray, rodeados del hermoso canto de los pájaros que da fuerza a su pueblo. Sueña con apoyar a sus Pikenanis (grandes ancianos).
